We start walking as babies one step at a time, we learn how speak one step at a time, we learn how to read and write one step at a time, we learn how to play the piano one step at a time.
What if I told you that you can change your whole life one step at a time?
It didn’t occur to me until the journey of self-discovery started. And yes, I’m saying discovery because I was lost! I thought it all boiled down to the fact that I didn’t know what is the best career choice for me, or what my true purpose in life is.
But you know what? these were all ideas I was feeding to myself, ideas I held dearly to my heart just to distract me from what was really going on, on the inside.
We live our lives being spoon fed with ideologies, with beliefs, with certain characteristics we should adopt in order to succeed in the life path we eventually end up on, not willingly, but with the assistance of the society guide, or the culture guide, or the parents guide or any other guide that had the strongest impact on the path we should be choosing in order to reach the destination we always thought we wanted to reach.
It takes only one moment of deep thinking, a moment of true sorrow or pain, or sometimes a moment of true joy to step back and think if you are true to your inner-self, if your actions are complimenting your inner-soul and your own beliefs, if you are in touch with your inner stillness and inner silence. Then, and only then, will you de-clutter your thought closet and pick the only thought garment that best fits your mental figure.
It’s not a day’s job, nor a week’s job, not even a month’s job, it’s a constant process of freely choosing the possibilities which bring out your highest possible self. Taking care of the mind is similar to taking care of the body, you need to work out your mental process by adding more positive weight while reducing your negative intake.
one step at a time you will start adding habits to your daily life that support your mental journey, while letting go of other habits that hold you back from reaching your full-self. Say for me, it was practicing gratitude and meditation while keeping full awareness of my emotions, which is also still an area of progress for me. While letting go of blame, of helplessness and dependency. The payout is miraculous and what more important project will you have than the project of self- development!
Therefore, take a minute, name one good habit that you would like to add to your life or name one bad habit that you would like to get rid of and do that now, for what you will do now will have an everlasting impact on your future and how bright you have always wanted it to be.
“It is not uncommon for people to spend their whole life waiting to start living.”
– Eckhart Tolle
